Scope of Practice - Accepting Instructions

I accept most instructions, pending exact clinical details, as an expert witness in matters / claims related to:

- Heart attacks (myocardial infarction)

- High blood pressure (hypertension)

- Infective endocarditis

- Heart failure

- Collapse / loss of consciousness (syncope)

- Valvular heart disease (e.g. aortic stenosis, mitral & tricuspid regurgitation)

- Certain arrhythmias (e.g. atrial fibrillation)

- Echocardiography procedures, including:
- Transthoracic echocardiography
- Transoesophageal echocardiography
- Stress echocardiography
- Contrast echocardiography

Scope of Practice - Declining Instructions

I will decline instructions as an expert witness in matters / claims that fall outside of my areas of expertise and clinical practice, including:

- Cardiac surgery

- Adult congenital heart disease

- Pregnancy-related heart disease

- Cardiomyopathies (e.g. dilated / hypertrophic / arrhythmogenic / non-compaction)

- Sports cardiology

- Aviation cardiology

- Complications related to procedures that I do not currently perform, including:
- Coronary angiography / angioplasty / stent insertion
- Permanent pacemaker & defibrillator implantation
- Cardiac ablation procedures
- Pericardiocentesis

I also decline instructions (and have done so recently) if it becomes apparent that I have a professional or personal conflict of interest with a named party in the claim.
